Description of Mace: The Dark Age ROM - MAME

This game Mace: The Dark Age ROM - MAME working perfectly with emulator version mame64ui, you can download on this web site.

I usually tend to look down on the games that happen to be obvious copypastas of some other—commercially successful title.and somebody just basically made something . But this MortalKombat-Tekken-ish clone really grabbed me by the guts, so to say.

Released in 1997, the first thing that's gonna strike you straight away are the  astounding visuals of the game. The full fledged 3D scenes featured in Mace: The Dark Age are perhaps the slickest looking ones I've ever seen in a game from this era (well, there is a number of games I can think of, actually, that look almost as cool, but they do not use full 3D). And let me say it clear: it looks even better than the first three installments of Tekken, in my opinion.

Now, the voicing, sounds and the soundtrack are too OK, I guess, but I wouldn't exactly call it the game's strongest-side; because the actual strongest-sides are mainly its visuals and—surprisingly—its gameplay.

Because although it's rather one of those play and forget titles, Mace: The Dark Age is an enjoyable gaming experience. Kind of a dumbed-down Mortal Kombat; dumbed-down in the sense that even though there are MK-style, crazy hard combos featured in the game, if you are a casual fighter like me, you'll still get away with button mashing and a pinch of dodge and cover nevertheless. And that makes Mace: The Dark Age an incredibly versatile game, aiming at a wide range of players. And even if you're not an experienced fighting game pro, you're still going to have a great time.

And what is it all about, you ask? Well, it's all about the Mace, actually. A coalition of seven world lords, called the Covenant of Seven, ally themselves with an evil sorcerer called Asmodeus. Asmodeus possesses the fabled Mace of Tanis, a legendary weapon which grants its owner immense power and immortality, but forces him to feed on poverty, disease and despair. And since each of the seven lords wants to get hold of the Mace for himself, they each send out their best warriors to kill Asmodeus and capture the magic weapon. And, yes, that's exactly where you, the player, come in: as one of the ten warriors, available from the character roster.

And finally—just before I’ll highly recommend you to download and try out this gem—a short word on the controls: these consist of an 8-way joystick and four buttons—dodge, quick attack, strong attack and kick; for more detailed scheme check out this cool guide and a move-list in one featured here.

And that’s all. Really. I could go on and on, but why don’t you just do yourself a favor and try it out yourself, huh? Thank me later!
